Pachelbels Canon
Pachelbels Canon is quite possibly the most popular piece of music played at weddings, especially for the wedding march. This particular piece is also referred to as "Canon D" or Canon D Pachelbel". Click here to listen to a sample of it.
It was written in 1680 by Johann Pachelbel so it belongs to the Baroque period. It was originally composed for a string quartet, but there are now many beautiful arrangements for solo instruments, notably the harp.
The canon is quite a long piece of music, so unless you walk VERY slowly or stand waiting for it to finish, don't expect to have the entire piece performed. There are however, many points where the musician can stop in the piece without it sounding abrupt.
With so many people choosing this piece of music for their wedding ceremony, you might want to be more individual and choose something different. I have therefore put together a selection of wedding music suitable for the procession. Check out my Sampler CD.
