Music For A Wedding - FAQs
Common questions about music for a wedding will be answered on this page. If you have any other questions, please Contact Me and I will be happy to answer them.
What kind of harp do you play?
I
play a large Celtic harp made by an Australian leading instrument
maker, Tim Guster, who lives in Adelaide (see photo below). It has 35
strings with a black-brown body. On the soundboard are intricately
burnt-in traditional Celtic designs. Its looks and sounds fantastic
(see photo below).
How many weddings have you played at?
I have played music for a wedding for many happy couples in Australia over the past 12 years.
Do you play at unusual venues?
Yes, I have played in forests, on beaches and coastal lookouts.
Your price for music for a wedding ceremony?
This
will depend upon the location, since your venue might be some distance
from the Melbourne CBD. Another factor taken into account is duration
of performance. Wedding Packages will give you a good indication of price.
Your price for music for wedding receptions?
Like
most wedding entertainment services, my first hour costs the most, with
each subsequent hour at a much reduced rate. Therefore, if you choose
to have harp music for both the ceremony and the reception, you can get
a really good deal.
What is your price for weddings outside of inner Melbourne?
I
am happy to travel up to 4 hours outside of Melbourne, but will charge
a extra to cover my costs and time in driving there. These costs are
set at a very reasonable rate.
What about amplification?
I
always carry with me a small acoustic amp which is battery powered, so
I can take it anywhere. This is often needed during the prelude and
the signing of the register when people tend to talk. Large venues and
big churches often have a P.A. system which I can simply plug into.
How long can you play at a reception?
I can play up to 3 hours. During this time I will need a 15 minute break every hour.
Your requirements on the day?
All
I need is for you to provide me with a standard-sized chair. My harp
needs to be sheltered from rain, hot sun, sand and wind. The latter is
a problem because strong wind makes all the strings ring, giving the
music a muddy sound. A breeze is seldom a problem though.
What if it rains?
The harp, like most musical instruments is vulnerable to the elements.
In most cases I have found that outside weddings have provision for
rain, so it's not usually a problem. If this is not the case, I will
have to pack up my harp immediately it begins to rain.
How do I book?
When you fill out my Contact Form I will quickly get back to you to let you know if I am available and
give you a price. I then require a $100 deposit to secure the booking.
Do you charge GST for your wedding music?
There is no added GST cost for any of my services or products.
What if I cancel?
In the event of cancellation the $100 deposit is non-refundable and
will be retained as my cancellation fee. Any money paid as the balance
(i.e. anything above $100) will be refunded in full.
